Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa)
White, spring flowers, red fall foliage, edible berries.
Its natural range is restricted to eastern North America, spanning from Newfoundland down to Ontario and as far south as Arkansas and Georgia.
However, this highly resilient, antioxidant-rich deciduous shrub is fully hardy (Zones 3–8) and thrives in the BC climate. If you are looking to cultivate it locally, the plant adapts perfectly to both wet soils and dry uplands.
