Plant Size

Height: 60–100 cm (2–3 ft)

Growth form: bunchgrass (does not spread aggressively)

Garden Design:

Blue-green / grey-green leaves. Extremely valuable for soil stabilization, habitat, and drought resistance. Often found in dry hillsides, open grasslands, rocky slopes. Because it evolved with periodic drought and fire, it performs best in lean soils with little competition.

Bluebunch wheatgrass is extremely important because it: stabilizes soil, provides winter forage for wildlife, supports insects & anchors entire grassland ecosystems. Many degraded grasslands in western North America are restored using bluebunch wheatgrass as a keystone species.
