Soil & Sunlight

Sun: Loves sun but thrives best with consistent moisture, doing well in full sun in cooler climates but preferring part to full shade in hotter regions, especially if soils dry out.

High water needs; avoid letting soil dry out.

Plant Size

Height: Typically growing 4 to 6 feet (120-180 cm) high

Garden Design:

Goatsbeard grows well in partial shade with moist, rich soil. Pair in groupings (3-5 plants) for impact in woodland edges or borders, pairing with natives like Hosta, Foamflower, or Bleeding Hearts for texture contrast, or as a lush backdrop, ensuring consistent water. Feathery texture and white plumes.

Big shade perennial; works as a drift plant.
