Soil Type:

Sporobolus heterolepis, commonly known as prairie dropseed, is native to the central prairies of North America but is generally considered an introduced or naturalized species rather than a true native in British Columbia. It is primarily found in the wild in the Prairie provinces and eastward.

Because of its graceful, fountain-like mounds, airy summer flower panicles (which are famous for smelling like buttered popcorn), and stunning golden-orange fall color, it is highly sought after for local landscaping in BC. It thrives in full sun and dry to medium, well-drained soils.
