Sunlight:

  • Full Sun
  • Partial Sun

Soil Type:

  • Moist
  • Wet
A hardy, wetland-loving perennial rush known for its tight, vertical, bright green, cylindrical stems (2–4 ft tall) that lack true leaves. Helps stabilize soil, and is tolerant of flooding.
Soil & Sunlight

It thrives in full sun (but can tolerate partial shade) and wet, acidic soils, making it excellent for pond edges, rain/bog gardens, or erosion control. It is a versatile, low-maintenance plant that spreads via rhizomes.

Plant Size

Typically grows 2–4 feet (60–120 cm) tall and equally wide. Can be quite aggressive, spreading through rhizomes and self-seeding, so it may need control in small gardens.

Garden Design:

Thrives in acidic, wet, or boggy soils, including clay, loam, and peat, with a preference for constant moisture or standing water up to 6 inches deep. It is highly adaptable to various soil textures (sandy, silty) and can handle poor drainage, fluctuating water levels, and some salt tolerance.
