Sunlight:

  • Partial Sun
  • Full Sun

Soil Type:

  • Moist
  • Well-Drained

Perennial forms mounds of grayish green leaves with spikes of small lavender-blue flowers from early summer to fall. Highly attractive nectar source of all pollinators and hummingbirds. Frost tolerant. Easily propagated through cuttings. Low maintenance, ideal for borders and edges of farm fields.

Soil & Sunlight

Sun: Full Sun preferred, can tolerate partial shade

Soil: Thrives in well-draining soil, as soggy conditions can lead to root rot. It tolerates a wide range of soil types, including sandy, loamy, or even clay soil, and is not picky about pH. For containers, use a good-quality all-purpose potting mix.

Plant Size

Height: 30–100 cm (12–39") tall
Spread 18"

Garden Design:

Plant it at the front of borders or along paths to soften edges and allow flowers to spill over. Can be planted in drifts or groups for a dramatic display of color. Prefers well-drained soil; avoid heavy clay and rich, overly fertile soils, which can cause flopping.

Can be used as a scatter plant (usually clump-forming; can also be edging/matrix-like if used a lot)

Bloom Times:

  • May
  • June
  • July
  • August
  • September

Pollinator Support:

  • Bees
  • Hummingbirds
