A grass native to British Columbia and is found throughout the province, although it is most vigorous in the northeastern region. It is a very common and widespread indigenous grass that grows in various habitats, including moist to wet forests, meadows, wetlands, and clearings.

Soil: thrives in moist to saturated, medium to fine-textured soils like clay, loam, and peat, and can tolerate a wide pH range from acidic to neutral. It is well-suited for wet conditions, floodplains, marshes, and streambanks.

Height: Grows up to 3-5ft tall (90-150cm)

Width: 2-3 ft wide (60-90cm)

Spread: Spreads aggressively by shallow rhizomes and self-seeding.

Garden Design:

A native grass great for rain garden designs as it's well-suited for moist conditions and is commonly found in open woods, swamps, marshes, bog gardens and is effective and stabilizing stream banks. Recommended to cut back in early spring before new growth starts to manage height. Drought tolerant once established due to its deep root system.
